Lot Description
1872 Pattern Commercial Dollar. Judd-1219, Pollock-1360. Rarity-7-. Silver. Reeded Edge. Proof-61 (NGC). <div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">From the regular-issue silver dollar obverse die of the date, reverse with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcing above a laurel&nbsp;wreath, COMMERCIAL / DOLLAR / 420 Grs / 900 FINE on four lines within.&nbsp;A boldly toned piece that blends steel gray and deep copper brown over fully impressed surfaces. Considerable reflectivity in the fields is discernible as the coin dips into a light, this despite the presence of generally wispy hairlines that help to explain the Proof-61 designation from NGC. About a dozen or so examples of Judd-1219 are known in silver,&nbsp;a figure that includes examples in the ANS holdings, Connecticut State Library, Durham Western Heritage Museum, and Harry W. Bass Jr. Research Foundation. A rare prize in any state of&nbsp;preservation.</div>
