Lot Description
Here is a fantastic, Condition Census O-105 that is essentially a GEM in quality. In the old days, this coin likely would have been called a GEM. A strong mint luster glows with a supple satiny frost. The brilliance is radiant, giving life to the silver surfaces. Shades of pewter, slate, and pale gold blend all over. Nicely struck from heavily clashed dies, there is just a trace of striking weakness on the chin and bust. The surfaces are devoid of any post minting marks or contact, and are very clean. The eye appeal is excellent. PCGS 28, NGC 20, CAC 8. There are 7 graded PCGS MS64+. This coin sold in te 2017 Central States auction for $13,013, and it is very close to the eye appeal of the Newman coin, also an O-105, which sold as NGC MS64+ CAC. The Pogue Collection had an O-109 which sold for nearly $26,000! Only a half dozen examples have graded finer and this borderline GEM is worthy of a world class cabinet of Bust halves. Cert. Number 82618391 PCGS # 6103.00
