1879 Morgan Silver Dollar. Proof-66 (NGC). This premium Gem Proof 1879 silver dollar is toned in blended shades of deep charcoal, antique copper, olive-gray and silver-mauve. The Proof mintage for the year was 1,100 pieces, survivors of which appear on the market with regularity. Most have been cleaned or are otherwise confined to lower grades through Proof-64, however, and even in properly graded Proof-65 this issue can be challenging to locate.
