Lot Description
1853 Round 50 Cents. BG-418. Rarity-7-. Liberty Head. MS-63 (PCGS). Lovely satin to modestly semi-reflective surfaces glow with vivid medium gold color. This M. Deriberpie product combines the obverse of BG-415 with the reverse of BG-417. It is a notable rarity, with Bob Leonard enumerating just 14 pieces in the 2003 edition of the Breen-Gillio reference on California small denomination gold. Of those 14 coins, at least one is reportedly holed, and as nearly always noted by Bob Leonard, there is "probably some duplication" in the listing. (PCGS CoinFacts says "12 to 14 known.") Be that as it may, the present coin needs no qualifiers -- its rarity speaks for itself. A leading highlight of the Oregon Collection that will certainly see spirited bidding at auction. Provenance: From the Oregon Collection. PCGS Population: 1; 3 finer (all MS-64). PCGS# 10454. NGC ID: 2BK8. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
