Lot Description

Glints of light pinkish-rose patina enliven otherwise olive-orange surfaces on both sides of this handsome piece. Apart from a touch of typical softness to the central high points, the detail is uncommonly sharp for a lightly circulated gold coin from this Southern branch mint. Although the 1857-C is widely regarded as one of the more readily obtainable Charlotte Mint half eagles, it is still scarce in the finer circulated grades, as offered here.
