1844 Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-50 (PCGS). A sharply defined example that also retains considerable frosty luster. Pleasing honey-orange and olive colors overall with impressively smooth surfaces for the assigned grade. One of the scarcer Philadelphia Mint half eagles from the 1840s, the 1844 is highly elusive in Mint State, with premium AUs such as this only marginally less rare.
