Lot Description
1883 Hawaii Dollar. Medcalf-Russell 2CS-5. MS-61+ (NGC). A handsome Uncirculated specimen with eye appeal far exceeding that of the assigned grade. The surfaces are lightly toned featuring an even coating of silver-gray patina throughout. Dense, frosty luster underlies the aforementioned patina on each side. The scarcest and most conditionally challenging of the 1883 Kingdom of Hawaii silver issues, the dollar has a mintage of 500,000 pieces, 453,652 examples of which were redeemed. The typically encountered survivor in today's market is circulated to one degree or another, often impaired due to cleaning or other problems. Solidly graded as Mint State, this is a significant find for the advanced Hawaiiana collector. Provenance: From the Rockford Collection, Part 2. PCGS# 10995. NGC ID: 2C5D.
