Lot Description

1865-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-50 (NGC). An overall honey-gold example with flickers of vivid pinkish-rose iridescence that appear to drift toward the peripheries. Central detail is suitably bold for the assigned grade, especially on the reverse. The penultimate San Francisco Mint Liberty Head double eagle of the Type I design, the 1865-S was produced to the extent of 1,042,500 pieces.
