Lot Description
1821 Capped Bust Dime. JR-5. Rarity-3. Large Date. MS-63 (NGC). OH. According to the John Reich Collectors Society (Early United States Dimes: 1796-1837, 1984), this scarce die marriage is typically offered in well-worn condition. With the finest example known to the authors being an AU-55, we suspect that the Choice Mint State coin featured in this lot is high in the Condition Census for the variety. Dressed in blended lavender-gray and charcoal-gray patina, both sides are boldly struck in most areas. An important offering for the early Dime variety specialist as well as the Mint State type collector.
This is a fairly easy die marriage to attribute, star 3 on the obverse boldly repunched and a broad, extra-wide denticle present on the reverse outside the letters ES in STATES.
