Lot Description

A handsome piece, one of the nicer-looking Ryder 8-Cs that we have offered in recent years. The surfaces are generally hard and frosty, although a series of thin, shallow planchet voids drift diagonally tough the upper left obverse and lower left reverse. These features are minimally distracting during in-hand viewing and, in fac, are largely lost in streaky olive toning highlights to dominant orange-brown patina. There are no marks of consequence, and no trouble carbon. Well centered with bold to sharp detail throughout, this attractive Massachusetts cent would comfortably represent the Ryder number in most collections.
