This is an attractive example of the challenging 1857-S half dollar, the surfaces warmly toned in steel-gray with appreciable underlying luster. Boldly defined throughout and uncommonly well preserved, this coin is sure to have no difficulty finding its way into an advanced Liberty Seated half dollar collection. This is a scarcer issue with a mintage of only 158,000 pieces, the vast majority of which succumbed to the rigors of circulation in the Old West.
