Lot Description
1928 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. Good-6 (PCGS). Hart's "Coins of the Golden West." 1909 California Indian and Bear series. 25¢. MS-66 (NGC). An exceptionally smooth coin that was obviously a pocket piece for many years. At this grade level the rims have just started to blend into the tops of the devices such as the stars and reverse legends, but considerable device definition remains despite considerable wear, showing even more of the genius of Augustus Saint-Gaudens incredible design. For the entire Saint-Gaudens series, there are three coins graded as AG-3, but this is the sole Good-6 graded by PCGS, and thus the fourth lowest grade coin they've seen from this series. Sort of a reverse condition rarity, but highly collectible and no doubt intriguing.
