Grellman Die State c. A truly captivating example displaying glowing shades of tangerine, pink and deeper steel blue across both sides. These colors are emphasized by strong satiny luster that glows under a light source and tumbles at a tilt. Signs of handling are virtually absent and the eye appeal is exceptional. Among the finest survivors from this popular, terminal issue in the United States Mint's large cent series. Just four other grading events have been recorded by PCGS at the MS-64 RD level for the Small Date variety, one or two of which may represent resubmissions. Only one coin ranks finer at PCGS MS-64+ RD, stressing the truly elusive nature of full Red examples of this variety. Just as significantly, it is one of just 1857 Small Date cents to receive approval by CAC across all grades in the full Red category. This is clearly an exceptional quality cent that would do equally well in an advanced type, Newcomb variety, or PCGS Registry set.
