Lot Description
1864 Pattern Indian Cent. Judd-355b, Pollock-Unlisted. MS-64 (PCGS). Eagle Eye Photo Seal. OGH. Sharply struck from the regular-issue dies of the design type. Lustrous golden surfaces with the overall appearance of a ""white"" cent of the date. Repunching noted at the bottoms of 864 in the date. Judd-355b, as here, is unlisted in the Judd reference, the Pollock reference, and the uspatterns.com website. The specimen offered here appears to be of cupro-nickel composition on a thin planchet, at least to this writer (FVV), but the encapsulation makes it impossible to come to any conclusion based on weight or actual planchet thickness. No doubt it is one of the numerous alloy experiments carried on at the mint in 1864, a pivotal year that saw cupro-nickel and bronze cents issued for general circulation.
