Lot Description

1877-S Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-55 (NGC). A generally sharp example with vivid medium gold surfaces and considerable luster remaining. The final low mintage San Francisco Mint issue in the Liberty Head half eagle series, the 1877-S was produced to the extent of just 26,700 pieces. There are few survivors, and with most grading VF or lower, this lively Choice AU represents a particularly significant find for the advanced gold specialist. NGC Census: 27; 9 finer (MS-61 finest).
