- Lot Description
- This is an outstanding specimen that is seemingly earmarked for inclusion in a high quality Proof type set. Vivid golden yellow color blankets surfaces that are expectably smooth for the assigned grade. Fully struck, as befits the method of manufacture, with an uncommon degree of field to device contrast in a late date Proof Liberty Head quarter eagle.<p>Popular for type purposes, the 1907 is not only the final Proof issue in this series, but it is also one of the more frequently encountered in numismatic circles. Scarce in an absolute sense, however, John W. Dannreuther (2018) accounts for only 100 to 120 coins extant from a mintage of 154 pieces. Most of the survivors are not choice and, indeed, our two most recent offerings were for examples in PCGS Proof-61 and NGC Proof-62. As an upper end Gem the present specimen is an undeniable condition rarity worthy of the strongest bids.
