Here is a smoky gray near-gem struck at the height of the Civil War, one of 460 pieces struck in the Proof format. Pale peach-gold and electric blue iridescence comes to life in a bright light, highlighting the boldly rendered design motifs and the reflective fields. Of interest to those who study such things: a pair of raised diagonal die lines can be seen in the lower loop of the 8 in the date and the reverses arrows are separated.
