Richly frosted with a boldly executed strike, the devices contrast markedly with the deeply mirrored fields. The entire package is brilliant apart from whispers of reddish-gold iridescence here and there at the borders. An interesting issue, the 1883 may be the most readily obtainable Philadelphia Mint Morgan dollar of the 1879 to 1884 era with a Prooflike finish (per Wayne Miller, <em>The Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook</em>), but it is also a decided condition rarity in grades above MS-64 PL. This is one of the very finest certified in this category, and will surely catch the eye of advanced Morgan dollar enthusiasts.
