Lot Description: 1843-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. Large Date. Winter Variety 1 (5-D). MS-61 (NGC). Bold orange-gold patina to both sides, the surfaces suitably lustrous for the grade with a decided satin texture to the finish. Light scuffiness is noted, but there is no wear, and sizeable blemishes are few and far between. A bit lightly struck in the centers, yet no more so that one should expect for an example of this issue. Despite its status as one of the more frequently encountered C-mint Quarter Eagles, the 1843-C Large Date remains a very scarce-to-rare issue in Mint State.
