This exceptionally vivid specimen is far more Red than Brown on the obverse, which side exhibits minimal mellowing of intense rose-red mint color. The reverse also retains pinkish-red mint color, which blends nicely with iridescent lilac-brown patina. With a full strike and silky smooth surfaces, this is a premium quality Gem worthy of the strongest bids. From a mintage of approximately 950 Proofs, high grade survivors such as this are rare in their own right and enjoy heightened demand in today's market given the scarcity of the circulation strike 1872 cent in Gem Mint State.
