Lot Description

1865-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-53 (PCGS). Richly original straw-gold surfaces are boldly defined in most areas with ample luster remaining. The mintage for this issue is 1,042,500 pieces ($20,850,000 in face value), one of the largest production figures for the denomination during the Civil War and Reconstruction eras. These circulated freely on the West Coast, where most became well-worn in a relatively short time.
