- Lot Description
- One of the FINEST 1824/4 O-110a's that exist. This is the spectacularly toned Gardner Coin. Beautiful, forceful cartwheel luster blooms from all over, accenting the beautiful toning, particularly on the reverse. The obverse is delicately dusted by soft green-gold, lavender. The reverse offers a distinctive cobalt-teal and violet form rings around a rich amber-golden orange patina in the center. Crisply struck throughout, the devices have razor sharp definition. The eye appeal is SUPERB. PCGS 2, NGC 8. No PCGS-graded 1824/4 has ever sold in auction. Only one coin is graded finer, the Eliasberg-Pogue MS66, that sold for $47,000 in February 2016. In MS65, the current Collector's Universe value is listed at $22,500 and that level may need to be increased when this beautiful GEM crosses the block. Bound for another world class collection of early half dollars. Cert. Number 81264707 PCGS # 6140
