- Lot Description
- Handsome deep orange-gold color with enhancing overtones of silvery-rose iridescence. The finish is predominantly reflective, but there is some light frosting to the central motifs that provides subtle hints of cameo contrast as the coin rotates under a light. Fully struck and attractively original in preservation.<p>Proof coins represent the finest the Mint has to offer and nearly all of the classic gold issues in this format were produced in extremely small quantities. For example, while more than 176,000 circulation strike quarter eagles were made in 1906, only 160 coins were struck in Proof format. Survivors of the latter delivery are among the most popular Liberty Head quarter eagles for advanced collectors seeking a single Proof for type purposes, and this one is sure to please.
