Lot Description
The reverse is rotated more than 45 degrees clockwise from normal coin alignment. This is a handsome BU example with nice gloss to frosty, predominantly copper-brown surfaces. Glints of antique gold outline some of the design elements and represent areas where original mint color was last to fade. Well struck overall with most features bold to sharp, this is a smoother and far more attractive coin than one might expect given the MS-62 numeric grade from PCGS. Worthy of a strong premium. Second most common of the die marriages known for the 1806 Draped Bust half cent, the C-2 has an estimated population of 5,000 or more pieces (per Bill Eckberg, 2019). Most State survivors are still conditionally scarce, however, with only about 100 known.
