Lot Description
1919-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar. AU-58 (PCGS). CAC. Near-fully lustrous with minimal iridescent toning at the borders, an impressively smooth appearance for a lightly circulated early date Walker is also worthy of praise. Softness through the centers is the result of both incomplete striking detail and light rub that explains the Choice AU grade from PCGS. Indeed, the 1919-D is a severe strike rarity, with most examples flatly struck in the centers. In Mint State it is the third rarest issue of its type, surpassed by only the 1921-S and 1919-S. However, even Choice AU examples like this piece offer a significant challenge to locate. From a mintage of just 1,165,000 pieces, this is a significant piece that is sure to appeal to astute Walking Liberty half dollar enthusiasts. Provenance: From our (Stack's) sale of January 1987, lot 336. Lot tag included. PCGS# 6578. NGC ID: 24PZ. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
