Lot Description

132.8 grains. Attractive medium brown with surfaces that appear smooth to the naked eye but have taken on very fine granularity, discernible under magnification. A sharp and appealing specimen, though the rim is naturally flawed at the upper right obverse, lightly affecting the letters RE in CAESAREA. The date is complete on the planchet, as is the full reverse. Some old encrustation is noted in the shield horizontals. Tiny mint clip left of the date. Breen called this "unusually desirable in this condition" when he wrote it up in 1976. Today it appears somewhat more typical, but remains a highly collectible specimen for anyone who enjoys the Confederation-era coppers.
