1799 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-166, B-9. Rarity-2. Bowers Die State V. AU-50 (NGC). Richly toned in a blend of antique-copper and charcoal-russet shades, this boldly defined AU should be of obvious importance to the high-grade type collector. The strike is nicely centered and overall bold, and we see no outwardly distracting abrasions or other blemishes to either side. A popular variety of the 1799 Draped Bust Dollar, the present example is struck from the terminal state of the obverse with numerous cracks (as made) having shattered the surface of the steel.
