Lot Description

159.6 grains. 160.8 grains. This warm autumn-orange brown, overall smooth-looking example is struck on a nice planchet and remains free of troublesome handling marks. The only flan flaw present is minor and difficult to discern in the left obverse field; few small spots within the sun's rays, in right obverse field, and within rings at left reverse. Both sides are well centered and generally bold for the assigned grade, although we do note some minor softness at left obverse with the word FUGIO a bit faint, yet still legible. While a few sharper examples of this Newman number have passed through our auctions in recent years, including the primary Richard August coin in PCGS EF-45, that offered here is still an above average example of the variety that will fit comfortably into many collections.
