- 1870 Pattern Quarter. Judd-884, Pollock-982. Rarity-6+. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-65+ RD (NGC). CAC. William Barber's obverse with Liberty seated left, hand on shield draped with ribbon adorned with LIBERTY in <em>raised </em>letters, liberty pole and cap, stars around, date below, reverse from regular-issue die of the denomination and date. Bold mint orange surfaces tempered with a touch of pale rose throughout. The strike is sharp and the devices are full on both sides. Around a dozen examples of Judd-884 are known. The present coin is<em> the solitary + example of the variety certified by NGC within any color designation.</em>
