Lot Description

Breathtakingly beautiful golden-apricot surfaces are fully struck, softly lustrous, and uncommonly well preserved in an example of this conditionally challenged 20th century gold issue. The FS-101 attribution of the 1926 double eagle refers to an interesting Tripled Die Obverse variety. Close examination of the coin's lower right obverse, with the aid of magnification, reveals tripling to the date digits, designer's monogram initials, and the adjacent rays.
