- Obv: Liberty is seated left with 13 stars around the periphery and the date 1871 below. Liberty is wearing a Native American headdress, supports a liberty pole with her right hand, and her left hand rests on a globe inscribed LIBERTY. There are two flags behind the portrait, one of which is ornamented with 13 stars. Rev: A wreath of cotton and corn surrounds the denomination 5 CENTS, with the word STANDARD above. Bright blue is blended with lilac and copper-orange, a sharply struck Proof with lovely surfaces. As noted on the uspatterns.com website: "This [design] was apparently implemented by William Barber as Longacre died in 1869. These were sold as part of complete sets from the half dime to the silver dollar."
