1855 N-10 R1 Italic 55 NGC graded MS63 Brown.Frosty medium steel brown. Sharp and very attractive but a glass reveals the rims have been lightly smoothed for some unknown reason. No spots or stains and the only notable contact marks are a tiny tick on the end of the chin and a thin diagonal nick in the field below the right edge of the outer bun. EDS+, die state b early. Star 6 is mostly gone thanks to a clog in the die; about 25% of that star remains visible and star 1 is starting to lose its definition. The fine die lines seen on the proof and early business strikes are still visible. This cent was part of a 12-coin die state display of 1855 die states at an EAC Convention. Our grade is net AU55. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. NGC population 3; 15 finer.Estimated Value $300 - UP
