Description du lot
1852-D Liberty Half Eagle. Winter 28-T. MS-63 (PCGS). With a respectable (by the standards of the type) mintage of 91,584 pieces and upward of 250-300 coins extant, the 1852-D is one of the more plentiful Dahlonega Mint Half Eagles in an absolute sense. Mint State examples remain very rare, however, and the finest pieces are a small group of solidly graded Uncs in MS-63 and MS-62.<br />     The coin we are offering in this lot is tied with the Duke's Creek specimen (also a PCGS MS-63) as the finest-known survivor of the issue. It is a pretty coin with dominant rose-orange color and subtle powder-blue highlights here and there around the obverse periphery. Satiny and otherwise well struck, mentionable softness of detail is confined to the central highpoints. Easily among the nicest '52-D Fives ever to pass across this cataloger's desk.
