- A gorgeous coin that really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. The surfaces are peripherally toned in iridescent champagne-rose and cobalt blue colors, the former extending into the center on the reverse. There is enough brilliance to allow ready appreciation of a strongly cameoed finish. The fields are watery and reflective and support satiny, fully impressed motifs. Exceptionally smooth for a CC-Mint Morgan dollar, especially one with such delicate fields.
Of this popular low mintage issue Wayne Miller writes in his Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook:
The 1885-CC is available in very deep cameo prooflike, with frosty devices. Such specimens are beautiful and always command a premium especially when minimally abraded.
A fitting description of the condition rarity PCGS MS-66 DMPL example offered here. Watch this one go!
