1879 Pattern Metric Dollar. Judd-1617, Pollock-1813. Rarity-4. Proof AU Details--Tooled (NGC). <td />A head of Liberty faces left on the obverse,&nbsp;the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM above, the date 1879 below and 13 stars arranged at the border seven left, six right. Liberty is wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY. On the reverse, the inscription 895.8 S. / 4.2 - G. / 100 - C. / 25 GRAMS is centered within a beaded circle. Outside the circle is a wreath of corn and cotton, at the top of which is an ornamental cartouche inscribed with the Latin motto DEO EST GLORIA. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is at the border and the denomination ONE DOLLAR is below. Struck in silver (metric or standard alloy) with a reeded edge.<br /> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Well defined with only light rub to the highpoints, light hairlines and evidence of tooling are largely concealed by deep charcoal-gray retoning.
