Lot Description

Though not noted on the holder, this is the Large 8 variety, JR-4. Very pleasing overall with a classic, old time look. Soft dove/pewter silver-gray surfaces have subtle iridescent gold highlights seen here and there. Both sides show light, honest wear and a better than normal strike for the variety. The eye appeal is quite nice for the date/type. While the authors of the JR reference referred to this variety as the most common for the year, they do not appear this nice with much frequency. PCGS 4, NGC 1. No AU53 graded by either service has ever sold via auction. Housed in an older NGC holder, we can tell you this is not a recent upgrade of the NGC AU50 sold in April 2015 for $4,465.
