Lot Description

1881-O Liberty Eagle. Winter Variety One, the only known dies. AU-50 (PCGS). Sharply struck with only light rub to report, both sides also retain near-full luster in a satin to modestly semi-prooflike sheen. A trace of pale-silver tinting yields to dominant bright-orange color at most angles. Produced to the extent of just 8,350 pieces, the 1881-O is the rarest of the three low-mintage New Orleans Mint Eagles from the 1880-1882 era.
