Lot Description

A gorgeous Patched 3, last sold by Heritage at a record price for this Red Bookstaple, $7,500.  A gloss of original pale gold toning fails to hide a generous helping of cartwheel luster.  The strike is first rate for the issue.  A short drift mark adjoins star 9.  The surfaces are lovely, exhibiting miniscule signs of contact.  We may be certain the coin never saw a day of actual circulation. Estimate: $4,000 and up
