Lot Description

Breen Die State I. Struck from medallic alignment of the dies. Deep golden-olive brown with hints of pinkish-rose engaging the central design elements. Peripheral detail is soft, more noticeably on the reverse, where portions of the legend and fraction are faint to indistinct. The central design elements are significantly bolder, although the date and word LIBERTY on the obverse are also clear. There is a faint spot at the obverse border after the word LIBERTY, reverse periphery with a few trivial pits and carbon flecks, but otherwise this piece presents as glossy and pleasingly smooth for the assigned grade. With an estimated mintage from these dies of just 1,500 to 2,000 pieces, Sheldon-90 is understandably rare in numismatic circles.
