Lot Description

Bisecting swaths of delicate golden-apricot and powder blue toning enhance boldly struck and satiny surfaces. These "color bands" are quite common on San Francisco Mint Peace dollars - a result of the manner in which that facility prepared the planchets for this series. We have noted a similar feature on many high grade (read: Choice AU and Mint State) New Orleans Mint Liberty Seated coins from the 1840s, and likely for the same reason. Given the scarcity and consequent cost of the 1924-S Peace dollar in MS-65, this premium near-Gem with CAC approval represents excellent value for the astute collector.
