Lot Description

1867-S Liberty Half Eagle. VF-30 (NGC). Medium orange-gold surfaces exhibit no readily visible marks despite a prolonged stay in the channels of commerce. A date for which virtually the entire mintage of 29,000 pieces saw some amount of circulation -- neither NGC nor PCGS has certified an 1867-S half eagle in Mint State! If such a coin exists, it has yet to be sent to a third-party grading service for certification. A pleasing specimen of an unheralded scarcity. PCGS# 8314.
