113.5 grains. Even dark steel with finely granular surfaces. Well struck and well centered, though the portrait shows its usual softness, which reveals some of the inherent planchet texture at George's eye and temple. A single little rim nick is noted above VS of GEORGIVS, but we see no other significant marks. The usual die clash at S and the stop that follows are seen, along with a curved impression from the clashing of Britannia's shield behind George's head. While this piece may have spent a little time in the ground, it is sharp and even, displays strong detail and aesthetic appeal, and would upgrade many advanced collections. PCGS has certified just four examples finer than VF.
