Lot Description
1902 Morgan Silver Dollar. Proof-66 (NGC). Delicate reddish-gold and sandy-silver iridescence drifts over both sides of this partially brilliant specimen. Universally reflective with a strike that is razor sharp to full throughout the design. The 1902 is the first Proof Morgan dollar issue for which Mint employees lightly polished the recessed areas of the dies, and the typical example displays a universally brilliant finish without the cameo contrast seen on most earlier dated Proofs of this type. The 1903 and 1904 were also produced in brilliant format. Scarce when compared to many Proof Morgan dollar issues from the 1880s and 1890s, the 1902 can be particularly elusive in grades above Proof-64, as here. PCGS# 7337. NGC ID: 2822.
