Lot Description

Struck from the typically seen clashed state of these dies, obverse with a tiny chip out of the die between the first cinquefoil and sundial. Lovely autumn-orange brown surfaces are evenly toned with a generally hard, frosty appearance in hand. Close inspection with a loupe is require to discern a few trivial flan fissures on the obverse, both sides with old build up here and there around some of the design elements, but no sizeable or otherwise significant blemishes are seen. Well centered and boldly to sharply defined overall, this is a satiny and visually appealing piece that would be difficult to beat in an EF Newman 18-U. Few of our offerings for this variety in recent decades have graded finer than Choice VF.
