Lot Description
1855 Braided Hair Cent. N-4. Rarity-1. Upright 5s. MS-66 BN (PCGS). CAC. This is a thoroughly appealing 1855 cent with faded pinkish-rose luster and evenly toned, medium brown surfaces on both sides. Blushes of vivid powder blue iridescence are also scattered about, with the boldest splash on the reverse around the word AMERICA. Striking detail is full apart from a touch of softness to stars 5 to 7 on the obverse. The overall appearance is as nice as would be expected for the premium Gem grade from PCGS. A pair of thin strikethroughs in the obverse field between stars 2 and 3 are mentioned solely as identifying features. A popular and easily attributable variety of the 1855 cent, N-4 is identifiable by several die chips below Liberty's ear, on the neck, and on the shoulder below the curl. PCGS# 1907. NGC ID: 226M.
