- Lot Description
- Newcomb-1 incorporates all the verbiage listed by PCGS, but is most distinct based upon the obverse peripheral die crack that has a "W" shape between the top two stars. The marvelous obverse features delectable, attractive and fully frosted honey-brown patina and suggests a commercial grade of MS-64, if not higher. Turning to the reverse reveals the reason for the lower MS-61 BN grade, as this side features a curious melange of steely, bluish overtones adjoining frosty mahogany areas. A lovely coin nevertheless, and one that enjoys contact-free surfaces, and practically a full Gem appearance when viewed from only one side.
