- Lot Description
- 1872-CC Seated Liberty Dime. Fortin-101, the only known dies. EF-45 (NGC). CAC. Intermingled gold, rose, and blue toning. Rarer than even the tiny mintage figure of 35,480 pieces indicates. NGC has certified a grand total of just 33 pieces in all grades, most of which are in the VG to VF range. They have graded specimens as EF-45 or finer on only five occasions over the course of more than 2-1/2 decades. An important opportunity for the Liberty Seated dime specialist. Presumably, many examples remained unissued and were melted into bullion when the weight standard for the denomination changed in 1873.
