Lot Description
1869 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-P2. Rarity-4. Doubled Die Reverse. Proof-63 (NGC). Lightly toned in iridescent silver-gray, this is a sharply struck coin with modest, yet appreciable field-to-device contrast evident at direct lighting angles. Six hundred Proof silver dollars were struck by the Philadelphia Mint in 1869 from four distinct die pairs. The OC-P2 variety, as offered here, is one of three identified as a Doubled Die Reverse, which feature is boldest at the letters IN in the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Provenance: From our (Stack's) sale of the John Work Garrett Collection for The Johns Hopkins University, March 1976, part of lot 303, an original 1869 Proof set. PCGS# 7017. NGC ID: 252R.
