Lot Description
1882 Liberty Seated Dime. Proof-67 Cameo (NGC). This impressive Gem Cameo Proof dime is as nice as one could hope for the grade. The fully brilliant and frosted devices stand out boldly from the deeply mirrored silver fields, and a hint of golden toning caresses the rims. A sharply struck Gem survivor from a Proof mintage for the date of 1,100 pieces as noted in the Guide Book; some of the mintage was unsold and was later melted in 1883 according to Breen (Encyclopedia, 1988). Just three Cameo Proofs of the date have been certified finer than the present Gem by NGC. Undeniably choice and visually enchanting, and a coin that would display the type admirably in an advanced type set.
