- 1840-O Liberty Seated Dime. No Drapery. Fortin-106a. Rarity-5. Medium O. AU-58 (PCGS).
Blushes of pretty champagne-apricot iridescence drift over otherwise silver gray surfaces on both sides of this frosty, sharply struck example. An eagerly sought variety among Liberty Seated dime enthusiasts, Fortin-106 is the only Medium O die pairing of the 1840-O No Drapery issue. The coin offered here represents the later Fortin-106a die state, identifiable by a sharp reverse break through the letter E in STATES. On his website seateddimevarieties.com, Gerry Fortin suggests that this scarce variety is worth a 30-50% premium.
Provenance: From the E. Horatio Morgan Collection.
PCGS# 4574. NGC ID: 2382.
